WHERE DOES THE MONEY COME FROM?

Revenue for running the Tailgate Alaska event in Thompson pass comes from a combination of ticket sales and outside sponsorship. Ticket sales alone do not cover the costs of running Tailgate Alaska and that is what makes our outside sponsors so important - without them none of this is even possible!

WHERE DOES THE MONEY GO?

We’d like to shed some light on what it costs us to do Tailgate Alaska every year. Thompson Pass is public land, but we don’t get to use it for free. Every year we build our temporary city at the base of the Chugach mountains in the remote Alaskan wilderness which costs money in permitting, labor, equipment, services, and operations. We work with all sorts of partners - many from the local Valdez community -  to give Tailgaters the best experience possible.

DISCLAIMER: We are not the only parking lot in Thompson Pass. These mountains are accessible year round, without a ticket of any kind. Tickets to Tailgate do not represent a cost to access these amazing mountains (unless you consider the discounts you get with local operators).
